How to Replace the VoicePro Battery

Do you need a new battery for the VP206 or the VP412? Click to order a replacement battery from Amazon (same for both units).

VoicePro Battery Replacement

Make sure you are working in an area without static. Do not stand on carpeting and do not wear clothing that creates static charges. It’s best to discharge yourself by touching something that’s grounded before opening the VoicePro. If you have a static discharge to the electronic circuits, you may damage the unit.

Unplug the unit from power and remove all phone line connections. Then follow these instructions (scroll down for VP412 instructions)...

Replacing the Battery in the VP206

1. Turn the unit over and remove the four screws you see on the bottom. 2. Turn the unit right-side-up again, with the rear (jack side) away from you.

3. Carefully pry up the top cover from the rear until the top pops of the back. Then you will be able to lift it off completely.

4. Inside you’ll see two circuit boards. The battery is under the top board. So you need to remove the top board.5. First unplug the battery from the top board. This is the red and black wire coming out from under the top board and connected to the front of that board.

6. Now remove the top board, which is attached to the bottom board at two locations, one on the left and one on the right. Carefully pry up left and right a little at a time. Don’t pry one side alone without the other. Eventually you’ll have lifted the top board off the bottom.

7. Now you can see the battery compartment near the rear. Remove the four screws holding down the metal cover. Remove the battery.

8. With a pair of pliers pull the connectors to remove the red and black wires from the battery terminals. You will reuse this cable.

9. Bend the battery leads on the new battery into a 45 ̊ angle. Crimp the leads on the battery wires so they will hold tight and push them onto the color-coded terminals on the new battery.

10. Place the battery into position and replace the metal cover and four screws.

11. Take the top board and carefully position the jacks into the holes they belong in on the rear. Once you have them in place lower the board carefully making sure the two connectors line up with the bottom board. Then push down until it is seated well.

12. Connect the battery wires to the terminal on the top board. You should see the red LED flash once as you make the connection.

13. Place the top plastic cover (rear first) on the unit and press the front down until it clicks.

14. Replace the four screws on the bottom and you’re done.

Replacing the Battery in the VP412

1. Remove six screws (3 on each side) from the metal case.

2. Lift off the top carefully. Be careful because the battery is attached to the top cover. Don’t rip the wires from the circuit board that is attached to the bottom of the case.

3. Unplug the battery cable from the circuit board. Remember where it was attached.

4. Remove the four screws holding the metal case over the battery under the top cover.

5. The battery may be held onto the battery cover with double-sided adhesive. If so, pry the battery off its cover so that you can use the cover for the new battery.

6. With a pair of pliers pull the connectors to remove the red and black wires from the battery terminals. You will reuse this cable.

7. Bend the battery leads on the new battery into a 45 ̊ angle. Crimp the leads on the battery wires so they will hold tight and push them onto the color-coded terminals on the new battery.

8. Attach the new battery and four screws holding the battery in place.

9. Bring the top cover into position and before closing it, connect the battery cable. Don’t force it if you have it backwards. The red wire goes next to the ribbon cable.

10. Close the cover and replace the three screws on each side. Six total. You’re done.

Test Before Programming

After you replace the battery, plug in the unit for a few minutes. Then unplug it and check to see if the yellow light blinks. It’s a slow blink – about once every two seconds. Do this before you spend time programming.

If the yellow light is not blinking then the battery is not taking a charge and this indicates that something else is wrong.

What do I do with used batteries?

Remember to recycle your old battery. It is illegal to dispose with regular garbage. Most retailers accept rechargeable batteries for recycling, such as Radio Shack and Home Depot.
